How does a working artist find sustainability?
As a concert organist and an executive coach for artists, people sometimes assume I left music for coaching. I didn't leave music, I just left the old ways that no longer exist.
What I built instead is a portfolio career (performing, coaching, teaching, writing) that doesn't depend on any single institution deciding to keep me on payroll. And that's freedom.
Inner Artist Management exists because I believe every working artist deserves the same.
Origin Story
You could say I've lived two lives: one onstage, one in deep conversation behind the scenes. But it's always been one practice.
As a performer, I've spent decades inside the most demanding spaces this field has, and I watched the traditional career path (the tenure line, the concertizing circuit, the stable full-time post) collapse in real time around me and everyone I trained with.
As a coach, I help accomplished artists build what comes after that collapse: clear direction, a real operating rhythm, pricing that reflects their caliber, and the stability to sustain all of it.
I coach the way I perform, with preparation, precision, and complete presence. Same discipline, different bench.
The Quiet Voice
There was a moment when I realized the life I was living (the gigs, the grind, the constant proving) was built on a model that had quietly stopped working. Not for lack of talent or effort. The path I trained for (the tenure line, the full-time post, the steady climb) was disappearing underneath everyone walking it, and the quiet voice was the one willing to say so.

I knew I needed to reconnect with the part of me that loved music for its ability to make meaning, not applause. And I needed a more honest answer to the practical question underneath it all: what does a sustainable artistic life actually look like now?

That shift didn't happen overnight. The voice spoke of coaching, led me to new teachers and tools, and eventually to the portfolio life I have today: performing, coaching, teaching, writing. Built on purpose. Dependent on no single institution's budget line.

The quiet voice, it turns out, was the strategist.
