An Open Letter | To those who, despite all efforts, never fit the mold...

It doesn’t seem fair, does it? You checked all the boxes and played by all the rules trying to find success in a system that led you to believe that doing so would yield results. Work hard, stay focused, success guaranteed.

But the reward you sought after and strove for never arrived. In fact, in its place you continually found resistance, rejection, and resentment, both your own and from those around you. Ever feel like you’re walking through a maze blindfolded, unsure how you managed to run into yet another wall? The wall was the boundary set by the mold.

Here’s what you didn’t expect. You see, in many ways, you’re a threat. Yes, you read that right. You’re a threat to the system. You know too much, work too hard, and demand accountability from yourself and others around you.

That’s not how the system works though. That’s not what the system rewards. The system is meant to create more molds and mold makers in its image. And because molds in their nature are designed to cut away what doesn’t fit, when expanding, changing, and expecting more from the mold maker, the mold won’t adapt, you’re cast aside.

But mostly you’re just tired from logically, passionately, and persistently pointing the way to something better. And after the exhaustion is abated, the anger arrives, furious at a system that won’t listen let alone adapt. And when you burn even yourself out with the white, hot rage, the only thing left is the sadness and the hurt softly asking, “Why? Why didn’t it work? Why didn’t I work?”

Because the mold you tried to form yourself in required cutting off the parts of yourself that make you powerful. In fact, anyone who “fits the mold” inherently loses part of themselves to play in a system. And sure, optics might look good regarding their “success” in the system, but looks are deceiving.

So what’s left for you? Well, first is the grieving process. Honoring the bargaining, denial, anger, and sadness you’ve experienced at trying to fit the mold. Come to terms with the knowing that coloring inside the lines didn’t work for you.

You know what’s at the end of that grief, right? Acceptance. And sadly for you, applying your hard won effort and determination by trying to force acceptance doesn’t work either. Go figure, the thing you need most is the one thing you on your own strength and determination can’t make happen. You can only allow. And that happens when you stop the fight.

The mold was never meant for you. It’s only ever limited the brilliance you were meant to bring forward. It was never meant for anyone, except those who found their way through as the round peg for the round hole, either at their expense or the expense of those around them. There’s always been a cost.

And when you finally stop entertaining the idea of the price paid for entry, you’ll open to a new reality where your existence not only has value, but purpose, intention, and significance.

Nothing is lost. It’s all been experience. Invaluable learning, and a precious breeding ground of conditions meant to break you open. And sure, it’s hurt like hell in the process. So start there. Recognize and witness the pain for yourself.

Because the polarity shift begins now. With reading these words. Your job isn’t to convince others of your brilliance, it’s to know it intimately for yourself. And once we leave the grief of genuine loss of what should have been, we can allow the gift of what is meant to be. And from there the world is yours.

The systems are crumbling around us. Pick any industry and you’ll see how it’s failing. The best time to leave the mold-centric system was years ago. The next best time is now.

No one else can create your mold. It’s one of a kind. And it’s yours. Take your authority and agency back. What’s being called forward in you now is exactly what’s needed in a world being brought into a new paradigm.

The world is ready. Are you?
